My Legal Education Internship - Paige Forcier

Mondays and Fridays are my two favorite days of the week. Partially because they sandwich the weekend, but more importantly because they are the days that I intern at CWEALF!

As a Legal Education Intern, I am fortunate to spend lots of time answering CWEALF’s Information and Referral (I&R) line.  Clients use this hotline to call with a variety of questions about their various legal issues. We provide legal information as well as referrals to any number of lawyers in our Cooperating Attorney Network.

When I’m not actively manning the lines, I’m working on a variety of other projects, such as reaching out to community organizations about CWEALF’s services, tagging along to legal education workshops with Nilda and Denise, updating the Cooperating Attorney Network, and making follow-up calls to past clients. I can honestly say that the follow-up calls have been the most rewarding portion of my internship responsibilities. It’s always encouraging to hear clients’ stories about how CWEALF has helped them.

I’ve learned so much about non-profit organizations, law, and people in general. As a Human Development and Family Studies major, I was unsure what my next steps were after graduation. After this opportunity with CWEALF I am sure that I want to be an attorney and continue to have a role in their mission to empower women. Now I just have to choose a law school!

I would highly encourage anybody interested in a meaningful internship or volunteer experience to consider CWEALF! Not only because of the opportunities to learn about gender equality and social justice, but because of the warm and supportive office atmosphere. Every member of the CWEALF staff is dedicated to the organization’s mission and is excited to share it. Staff members, interns, and volunteers are all part of the CWEALF family and I cannot emphasize enough how wonderful my time as a part of this family has been!
