CT Girls and Technology Network

Vision
The Connecticut Girls and Technology Network believes it is important to provide girls with continued motivation and opportunities to explore technology throughout their formative years. By capturing girls’ interest and helping them to realize their potential for success in tech-related careers, we will contribute to an increase of gender equity in the workforce and help to bridge the digital divide.

Mission
Our mission is to keep girls engaged in the world of technology. We work to create a climate in which girls can use technology in all forms and have greater exposure to the range of opportunities for them to experience, and participate in, careers with a technological component. To this end, we work toward:

making technology activity equally welcoming and enriching to all students; and

expanding the range of opportunities for girls to participate in careers in technology.

Who We Are
The Connecticut Girls and Technology Network is a statewide collaborative of educators, policy and business people, founded by Connecticut Voices for Children, and now hosted by Connecticut Women’s Education and Legal Fund. The goal of the Network is to create a climate in which girls want to “learn-and-use” technology. Technology has become ubiquitous across many professions and industry groups – including the biosciences, the arts, manufacturing, software development, engineering, and mathematics. Our specific focus has been to expand the range of opportunities for Connecticut girls to participate with women role models in the exploration of technology careers and applications.

What We Do

Girls & Tech Expos
The Network engages middle-school girls in hands-on experiences that expose them to the variety of educational and vocational options involving technology. In partnership with Connecticut colleges and universities, the Network facilitates a number of Girls & Tech Expos that bring girls from across the state together to participate in a day of tech exploration. The Expos are a powerful tool for introducing girls to the excitement of tech careers, and a foundation for the work of the Network.

Resource Databank
Connecticut is home to many organizations, both corporate and non-profit, in which women are engaged in high-tech jobs. This, along with the richness of its educational environment, makes Connecticut a fertile ground for the creation of a resource database – a repository of people, programs and ideas – that will encourage the participation of girls in technology careers. The Network is committed to the collection and organization of information about these Connecticut resources, and is planning for dissemination.

Membership
The Connecticut Girls & Technology Network is an expanding collaborative of individuals representing schools, colleges, museums and science centers, businesses, governmental agencies, and other organizations. It is a volunteer group whose members share a common concern for the continued and improved inclusion of girls in tech-related learning, activities, and workforce development. We encourage individuals and organizations to join us.
