Legal Education

CWEALF's Legal Education Program works to guarantee equal access to legal, educational and social service systems. To do so, CWEALF draws on a combination of strategies, including Information & Referral (I&R), Advocacy and Community Education.

I&R is a unique service that provides information on family matters, equal education for women and girls, workplace issues and discrimination. CWEALF's I&R staff help clients navigate the systems involved in these cases by explaining the law in easy to understand terms. CWEALF supplements this basic information service by providing referrals to attorneys and other service providers.

CWEALF provides advocacy services when individuals encounter barriers to independently resolving their legal issues. CWEALF's goal is to work with the client to remove any barriers and provide her with information and resources to navigate the rest of the process independently. No other agency provides this combination of legal education and advocacy and at no cost!

In addition to helping individuals navigate legal and social service systems through the I&R service, CWEALF also provides training, technical assistance and resources to employers, schools and community organizations to educate individuals and organizations about their legal rights and responsibilities. CWEALF staff works to increase awareness of gender inequities, its impact on communities and offers practical solutions. Currently, we have workshops on Child Support, Gender Bias in the Workplace, LGBT Rights, Sexual Harassment in the Workplace, Sexual Harassment in Schools, as well as a general presentation on CWEALF.

If you are interested in having a CWEALF staff person provide your agency or school with legal information on one of our specialty topics, please contact us at 860-247-6090 or email Amy Miller. If your organization, school, or business is in need of a workshop on an issue not already covered, please contact us and we will try to accommodate your needs.
