Education is vital to individuals’ personal and professional success. It is also the key to Connecticut’s success. In fact, the success of Connecticut’s economic future will greatly depend on its ability to consistently produce a highly-skilled workforce with the prerequisite basic and technical skills needed for the 21st century economy.
From Our Desk to Yours... is a compalation of testimonials designed to showcase the current programs and strategies that working in Connecticut. The Campaign for a Working Connecticut has assembled graduates and participants from adult education and training programs, staff and advocates from social service programs and members of the business community to document the need for, and value of, education and training programs. Together, they paint an optimistic story of how Connecticut can enhance the skills of adult learners to better match the needs of the state’s employers.
The stories are compelling. People who thought they were too old
to go back to school share their successes. Others offer words of advice
to adult learners. Social services providers share innovative ideas on
how to best serve our diverse communities. Business leaders describe
programs that have helped them to invest in their current workers.
This book demonstrates the real value of workforce development
both to the state and to the individuals who participate in education and
training. The Campaign hopes that their experiences will raise
awareness of the need for greater investment in the state’s programs and
services so that we can remain economically competitive and build on
our human capital.
